Afshean Hessam was born in Tehran,Iran in october 1972. He started his artistic journey with photography when he was eighteen. He traveled throughout Iran and shot mostly architectural photography and landscapes. He moved to United States when he was twenty two and continued his exploration moving toward fine art photography. To broaden his horizon he decided to continue his education in cinematography. He studied motion picture and television at the Academy of Art University and obtained a BFA with major in cinematography and minor in photography in 2005.
His work has been shown in several exhibitions and galleries both in United States and Iran. He received the Best Experimental Award at AAU Film Festival in San Francisco in 2002 and 2003 and a Scholarship Award in Photography at Peter and Plotkin Memorial Foundation in Irvine.
He has created several short films and has worked on film and advertising projects both in United States and Iran. Currently he is working as a freelance cinematographer/editor. He is also a Co-founder and Art director of a production company specializing in music video.
