Mahtab

Mahtab is an artist with numerous talents, who « sings what she draws and draws what she sings ». Born in 1966 in Tehran into an Azeri family, she was immersed in music from Azerbaijan from the earliest years of her life and was encouraged to develop her natural aptitude for Art.

She started drawing at a very young age, and was a top student for four consecutive years at the Behzad School of Visual Arts, where she was taught by great masters such as Parviz Izadpanah and Gholam Hossein Nami.  She came out first in her year among all students of specialised Art schools (honarestan). She then obtained the Specialised Diploma in drawing and oil painting as well as the State Diploma in visual arts and started teaching drawing and painting.

She also had a passion for traditional Persian singing and studied traditional Persian music (Radif) with Parissa at the Iranian Centre for the Conservation and Dissemination of Music along with her studies in visual arts.

She came to France in 1989 and continued her studies in visual arts. She obtained a Master’s degree in visual arts from Sorbonne University with honours. She continued to study traditional Persian music with Hossein Omoumi.

She set up her association, « Atelier 43 » (Workshop 43) in 2006, in order to continue teaching her art to young artists.

She staged her multiple talents in here concerts on 29 September 2007 & 01 March 2008 & 29 November 2008. At present, she is considered to be a rising star in classical Persian singing; an original artist who wonderfully combines music stemming from the great Persian tradition, and the beauty of Visual Arts.
